A regional train connection between the main train station
Roma Termini and Frascati runs every hour
from early morning to late night; the train trip takes 30' and the fare is
cheap at 2€. From the Frascati train station to Hotel
Villavecchia (or Villa Mondragone) it is about 2km distance.
Those flying to Italy will probably choose to fly to Rome (if flying to
Milan is more convenient, there is a frequent high-speed train connection
Milan - Rome which takes less than 3h. Just get off the train at Roma
Termini, as this is the easiest way to proceed: see above).
The main international airport is Roma Fiumicino (Leonardo da
Vinci Airport), SW of Rome, connected to the main train station (Roma
Termini) by a train shuttle (Leonardo Express), which runs every
15', takes about 30' and costs 14€. A (slower and cheaper) regional train is
also available. From Roma Termini to Frascati: see By
Train above. The overall transfer from Fiumicino airport
to Frascati should take about 90'-100'. There is a minor city
airport in Roma Ciampino: this is interesting, since it is where
some (e.g. Ryanair) low-cost companies operate from, and is SE,
i.e. on the city side which is nearest to Frascati. A taxi ride
from Ciampino to the conference location is about 20'. A train
station on the line Rome-Frascati is just 4km away and getting there by
taxi or bus and then proceed by train is just another viable option.
The area of Castelli Romani can be easily accessed by car, and
Villa Mondragone provides ample room for parking. If arriving from the
airports, it should be a 20' drive from Ciampino, or 60' from Fiumicino,
according to Google Maps. Especially from Fiumicino, traffic
jams are to be expected. Using the car from downtown Rome may be more
complicated owing to intense traffic during peak hours. Arriving to the
conference site from northern Italy requires getting the A1 highway
(Milano-Bologna-Roma-Napoli) direction south. At km 576 from Milan, take
the exit Roma Sud - GRA heading to city center; after 8km the
exit Monteporzio Catone is only 2km away from the town, and the
conference site is 2km further ahead, direction Frascati.
